According to Talmudic and Rabbinical Law, one may not wear a tallit upside down. That is why an atara is attached to every tallit. One is allowed to wear a tallit on either side with the atara visibly facing outward (customary) or with the atara inward. Therefore, I often design the inside of the tallit with the elegance of a solid color, usually white, though some are solid blue, gold or gray.
